Most performance upgrades on a GT-R are a conversation about trade-offs. More boost means more heat. More fuel means more weight on the injectors. More turbo means more lag at low RPM. The NISMO Carbon Air Inlet Pipe is one of the few upgrades where the trade-offs are essentially zero — it's lighter than stock, flows better than stock, and looks better than stock. The only question is whether the price makes sense for your build.
The NISMO Carbon Intake Air Inlet Pipe Set (14460-RRR45) is a genuine dry carbon component — not carbon-wrapped, not carbon-patterned plastic, actual woven dry carbon fibre manufactured in Japan to NISMO's specifications. It replaces the stock rubber and plastic inlet pipe routing between the air filter and the turbo compressor inlets on BCNR33, BNR34, and WGNC34 Stagea applications running the RB26DETT.
What Dry Carbon Does That Stock Can't
The stock RB26 air inlet system is made of rubber hoses and plastic housings. These are functional, they seal adequately, and they survive the temperatures in the engine bay without issue. They're also heavier than they need to be and less thermally insulating than carbon fibre. Dry carbon has significantly lower thermal conductivity than plastic or rubber, which means the air flowing through the carbon inlet pipe picks up less heat from the engine bay than it would through a standard inlet. Cooler air is denser air. Denser air means more oxygen per stroke. More oxygen means the tune can run more fuel for more power.
The flow improvement is a secondary benefit — the smooth internal surface of the carbon pipe creates less turbulence in the intake flow than rubber hoses with their inherent surface texture and flex under boost pressure.
At ¥420,000, the NISMO Carbon Air Inlet Pipe is a serious investment — appropriate for builds where the engine is already at a level where this kind of incremental improvement translates into meaningful results. For a full-build time attack or high-performance road car where every thermal and flow advantage is being extracted from the RB26, this is the inlet system. There is nothing better available for this application.
