Clutch pedal feel on a GT-R is something owners get used to over time — the vagueness in the mid-stroke, the slightly imprecise engagement point, the way you're never quite sure where bite is happening. You adapt to it and you stop noticing it. Then you install a braided clutch line and suddenly you remember what confident, precise clutch engagement is supposed to feel like.
The factory clutch hydraulic line on BNR34 and BCNR33 GT-Rs is a rubber hose. Rubber flexes under hydraulic pressure. When you press the clutch pedal, some of the force you're applying is going into expanding the rubber hose rather than into moving the clutch release mechanism. This flex is what causes the sponginess — the travel in the pedal stroke that doesn't correspond to movement at the clutch. Replace the rubber with stainless steel braided hose and the flex disappears. The pedal becomes direct.
NISMO's Braided Lines: R33 and R34
For the BCNR33, the NISMO Braided Clutch Line Hose (46211-RS590) is a direct-fit replacement — no modifications required, correct fittings at both ends, made by NISMO to their performance specification. For the BNR34, the equivalent is the NISMO Braided Clutch Line Hose (46211-RS595). Both are the same fundamental improvement applied to their respective platforms.
The stainless braid construction also means these lines are significantly more durable than the factory rubber. Rubber degrades with age, heat exposure, and contact with hydraulic fluid. At 25-30 years old, the factory clutch lines on many GT-Rs are overdue for replacement regardless of performance intent — and if they're being replaced, there's no reason to fit rubber again when the braided line costs only marginally more and performs substantially better.
Installation is a straightforward job. Bleed the clutch hydraulics properly after installation and enjoy a clutch pedal that finally tells you exactly what it's doing.
