Most carbon hoods are cosmetic. Strip weight, look aggressive, done. The NISMO R-tune Carbon Hood for the BNR34 is not that.
This hood came out of actual aerodynamic development — not styling exercises. NISMO ran wind tunnel sessions to dial in the shape, and the result is hardware with real function. There are two air extraction ducts on the hood surface, designed to draw hot air out of the engine bay while managing flow across the nose of the car. NISMO even fitted rain visors to the ducts, because they understand this car will be driven in all conditions — not just on closed circuits.
Weight and integration
Compared to the stock aluminium hood, the R-tune saves approximately 3kg. Against the OEM carbon hood option, it saves about 1kg. That's meaningful mass reduction right over the front axle — where reducing weight has real effects on steering feel and balance.
The hood works best paired with NISMO's R-tune Air Cleaner Duct (16554-RSR46), which improves hood-to-duct sealing and makes the cooling extraction measurably more effective. There's also a Z-tune Conversion Air Cleaner Duct (16554-RRR45-01) that takes the R-tune hood to full Z-tune specification — transforming the airflow management to match NISMO's ultimate BNR34 build.
What to know before buying
Material is pre-preg dry carbon throughout. The hood ships with a surfacer finish and requires painting to your body colour. Important: the R-tune hood is incompatible with the NISMO Air Inlet Pipe when used with the standard OEM air cleaner duct — the hood's internal bracing interferes. Fit either the R-tune or Z-tune conversion air cleaner duct and the issue disappears entirely.
Part number 65100-RSR45-01, ¥630,300 including tax. Made to order, one-year guarantee. Available through specialist authorised NISMO retailers worldwide — including Grovexo.
Expensive? Yes. But this is wind tunnel-developed motorsport engineering, not a catalogue carbon hood. You're paying for race-derived knowledge that went into every line of the design.
