The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX (2005–2007) is the pinnacle of the legendary Evo lineage — the last model with the classic 4G63 engine, and widely considered the best driving Evo ever made. Born from the World Rally Championship, the Evo IX combines AWD grip, turbo power, and active yaw control into one of the most complete performance packages in JDM history.

4G63 vs 4B11 — Why Evo IX Is the Fan Favorite
The 4G63 engine in the Evo IX (and all Evos up to IX) is one of the most bulletproof turbocharged engines ever made. Cast iron block, forged internals from factory, and a strong head — the 4G63 can make 500+ hp reliably with a turbo upgrade. The Evo X moved to the 4B11 aluminum block, which is less favored by purists. For the ultimate driver's Evo, IX is the answer.
Top Mitsubishi Evo IX Performance Parts
1. Turbo Upgrade — Precision 5858 / Garrett GT3071R
The stock TD05H-16G turbo is good to 350–380 hp. Upgrade to a Garrett GT3071R or Precision 5858 for 400–500 hp reliably. You'll need: 1000cc injectors, Walbro 255lph fuel pump, EVC boost controller, and a EcuFlash/OpenECU tune or standalone ECU.
2. Engine Internals — 4G63 Forged Build
For power over 400 hp, a forged build is recommended:
- Manley or Wiseco forged pistons
- Manley H-beam connecting rods
- ACL race bearings (main + rod)
- Cometic MLS head gasket (0.8mm)
- ARP head studs
- Genuine Mitsubishi 4G63 oil pump
3. Suspension — Ohlins DFV / Tein Mono Sport
- Öhlins DFV coilovers (best for track use)
- Tein Mono Sport coilovers (street/track)
- BC Racing RM coilovers (budget option)
- Cusco front strut brace
- Whiteline rear ARB upgrade
- Hardrace upper strut mounts
4. Brakes — Brembo 4-Pot / Endless Big Brake
The Evo IX RS comes with Brembo 4-pot calipers from the factory. For GSR models, upgrade to Brembo 4-pot front kit or Endless 4-pot kit. Add Project Mu HC+ pads and Goodridge lines.
5. AWD — ACD/AYC Maintenance
The Super AYC rear differential is what makes the Evo IX special. Key maintenance: genuine Mitsubishi AYC fluid (change every 30,000 km), ACD fluid, and transfer case fluid using genuine Mitsubishi parts only. Using the wrong fluid destroys the diff.
